break my silence.

I remembered saying that I want my justice done, but now, i've got it.
When I said that I want my justice done, I did not mean splattering it all over the newspaper.
I just wanted someone to listen to what I have to say and do the right thing.
:)

things are beginning to look up, I know there are some people who still think that I'm doing this for damage control.
Hmmm, but if so, how come I did it on Monday, instead of Sunday itself when I had it the worse.

ok, i think its time for me to speak up, especially since i did nothing wrong.

Firstly, no i did not call my friend SILLY for wanting to work part time and i did not, for one, said that i do not understand why she cannot just ask her parents.
What the reporter asked me was " Do you have any friends you know facing financial difficulties or are in need to money?"
I said " Yes, I've got a friend who has only 20 dollars left for the month. I told her to ask her parents but she said no because she want to be independent because she is already 20 and should not be asking for her parents for money so often already.. So she asked me whats the fastest way to earn money."

WHICH PART STATED THAT I SAID SHE WAS SILLY? HELLO, STUPID REPORTER OBVIOUSLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH.
And oh, guess what? She is avoiding my calls like a coward. Sorry Adilah, but this time your sister got me into deepfried shit.

So tomorrow, I will pick up my AWESOME phone, which i told her is currently a lousy phone because my HTC is spoilt (she did not include that), and dial 63196319 to ST.
I will clarify to them that i was misquoted.
I want justice done.

Secondly, what happened to the part where I said I paid for my own air fare and hotel plus my own telephone bills?

I asked Adilah (reporter's sister) and you know what crap she said?

She said " I can't write that down because She (meaning me) did not want me to write that she is bonded, and if i write that she is paying her own bills, it will show because this means that she is drawing a salary" 

HELLO ASSWIPE!

YOU KNOW, when i was reading the newpaper report, i was telling ck "CANNOT BE WHAT.. her phone alrdy spoil! she told me that at my birthday!"

they really know how to exaggerate things please.
it didn't sound like my agnes at all!

but you know what, people who really know you, will know you're not like that. that reporter (dont give a shit even tho that girl is your friend's sister) is so fucked up.

it's just like that tv ad, where the father of the fat boy only chose to "HEAR THE GOOD STUFF".. u remember that one? lol. the tennis coach saying all the bad stuff..

so bloody screwed up.

When I read yr part, I find it hard to believe that the editors would use
such stereotyping tones for their article. Then, I realised that they are
doing their "nation building" job.

This is exactly what they wanted to do. I would like to leave you with words
of a former ST editor (Lesile Fong) talking about the reporters:

insist on objectivity and balance, organise their material so their
account flows smoothly and logically, and use temperate language unless

i have already emailed the reporter because I felt that it is only right that I email her first before taking further actions.
I know that neither her nor ST wants to blow this matter up.
So emailing her first may be the best first step.
Following that, if she doesn't give me any satisfactory answers, i will write in to Today and call up ST.

Then we'll see how things go from there.

Bring it on, ST, I'm waiting.

Suspicious about the report

Hi,

Your anger is understandable, but contary to what you might think, those who google your name are not necessarily losers.

There're people like me who upon reading the news article became suspicious at the bizarre-ness, and questioned whether the interview subject is real or whether the interview report is real.

If you were misrepresented, then do demand vindication. I don't think it is right at all to be misquoted deliberately.

The local media should not forget that what ever juicy publications are off from the internet... Think of Sun Tan and the JC guy cases... They report on them yes, but never follow up on them... But they may not notice that most of the youths and young adults have time to spare to follow up on the Net and help to correct the misconceptions of their elders...

Was forwarded here by an acquaintance.

Just to say that, I've had quotes lifted from my weblog without due permission granted in writing and cited to me by the national press too. Thankfully it was nothing injurious to personal reputation.

My sincere hope that you are able to settle this issue. Misrepresentation in any form is wrong, plain and simple. Irregardless of what twisted form of "nation-(de)construction" the media has as a duty, there is a time and place for proper reporting, which is sadly lacking these days.

ah yes local media is zzz..
The other time when my dad's good friend died in a flood, they misquoted his number of children and all.. he had two daughters but in the report they stated tht he has a SON somemore, lols. And also misquoted other stuff.
They havent gotten back t you yet??

12 years ago, my friend was also misquoted by Journalist and his life was also ruin..seriously I will avoid ST journalist or shy away from them at all cost. Know how they always misquote to make their stories more juicy and sellable. To think they can write about such things misguiding the public, and how much of a propaganda it has become, the news is no longer worth reading..hang in there..use the internet to make sure the truth is known.

yea. After reading your blog i agree there has be injustice done to you for exaggerating facts and providing a one sided view of your life (eg. leaving out the part about you paying for your airfare, hotel, phone bills etc.) However, assuming the statements in the article that u did not rebut are true, don't you think it's a little excessive to carry a 2000 dollar bag to school? I mean, even though you are able to afford it, do you honestly think it is appropriate? Do you think it would be better if you were to save up that money(eg. to buy a house in future, for rainy days etc) or provide to more help (im not saying that you don't already) to those who might be in financial difficulty?

Hello! Came here through a friend. When I heard about the article my first thoughts were that its highly unlikely that you could really be that shameless and stupid. I'm glad to hear there's another side to the story! Anyhow, do stay strong through the onslaught you most probably are still facing now.. Hi, came from the forums. Your comments have appeared on the forums and seems like this is a case of a very biased reporter to leave it out that you paid your own airfare, hotel and telephone bills.

Yes, u have been wronged, but not all ST reporters are like that.
Just some of them who obviously do not have enough readership that's why.
Not to worry, today's news (or rather this week's news) will become nothing in the following week! Just hope u'll get some sort of apology at least from that particular reporter.

Do cool down, ya? We all know how Singapore's 154th place media works, so this should be little surprise to all in the know.

It is sad that this should happen to you and that you would have to explain yourself repeatedly should anyone in the future were to ask, and I hope that people would learn to trust Singapore reporters abit lesser after this issue.

Sorry to hear you've been so grossly misquoted

If what you say is true, then this is incredibly shoddy journalism. If the reporter doesn't want to answer you, then perhaps you can consider posting your reply to the article in the online forums at ST.

that way, your side of the story will quickly get out...
